horn-shaped; horn, German Silver and cork; cork lined; black grading to green-yellow and yellow; German silver shields top and front; and a band around top incorporates the hinge; small end of horn is curled into a spiral, done by steaming and shaping

History

Still contains traces of snuff. Brought from Scotland by Mr. Fairbairn, the father-in-law of George Macdonald's aunt, who settled in Detroit circa 1835. Small end of horn curled in spiral (done by steaming and shaping). Large ones, like this for home use, smaller ones for use away from home.
