9.5" diameter hole in center, with 4 gouges radiating out from center, lines of pink rock through center and edge.

History

One of a pair of millstones from a wind-powered grist mill on the Detroit River near Lake St. Clair. The mill, located on land owned by Pierre Belleperche, in operation until c. 1825. This region was famous for its windmills because the land was too flat along the Detroit River to develop enough water power, which was used in most of Upper Canada.
