Description

plier-like, but sharpened fan-shaped jaws; turned brass post supports head at pivot; turned wood grip on movable handle; of stationary jaw bolted to base; varnish on base; vertical linear incising on either side of the pivot; quarter round border of top of base

History

probably dating from founding of Amherstburg in 1797. Sugar nippers were used at the dining table for breaking white loaf sugar into lumps of usable size
