Description

White cotton; small fold-down collar; front opening from neck to below waist, then a false placket down to hem; opening fastens with 10 mother of pearl buttons; whiteworked scalloped trim along placket, wrists, collar, bottom of front yoke; gathered below yoke; whitework foliate and floral pattern on front yoke; back yoke is plain; both yokes have straight bottoms; same embroidery on collar and above wrists; plain hem; long sleeves, made of 3 pieces, slightly gathered at shoulder. Machine-sewn. Side seams, no waist seam. Back is one piece below yoke.

History

This was a wedding nightgown belonging to Mary Ann Horn (donor's maternal grandmother), who married David McCullock of North Dakota on March 14, 1883, in Elma, Ontario. Mary Ann moved to St. Mary's, Ontario, after she had been married for about 21 years.
