Description: Rectangular; cream-coloured paper with grey ink; most of the foreground is blank, with the garden seen at a distance; the only colour is the light blue roof of the gazebo in the centre; watermark (see Inscription) is horizontal near bottom left corner; border on all sides: .75cm wide at bottom, .5cm wide at sides, .25cm wide at top; title handwritten in black ink at back bottom, watermark comment added in pencil (see Inscription).
History: There is debate as to who is the actual artist. People have attributed it to either Catherine Reynolds (1784 - 1864 ) or her sister Margaret (1765 - 1855). The Reynolds family is listed in the 1782 Detroit Census. Following Detroit being ceded to the Americans (1796), the Reynolds settled in Amherstburg. One of Catherine & Margaret's brothers, Robert Reynolds, was responsible for the construction of the historic house, Belle Vue.
