Double, pear-shaped pans; twisted hook for hanging

History

Used by early pioneers, this was a type of grease lamp that was hung on cabin walls. Animal or fish fat was used as fuel and a cotton wick was placed within it and lit. The problem with many of these lamps was their tendency to drip grease along the wooden walls causing a serious fire hazard.
