Mid 19th century chest of drawers; made of walnut, maple, elm and ash; three drawers with iron bail handles; Eastlake style; incised decoration; brass bail escutcheons; square wood keyhole escutcheons; imitation burled walnut side panels; used to be on casters; varnished

History

Almost all eastlake chests were made by furniture factories in Canada and the U.S. and many were made in Ontario. The name comes from Charles Locke Eastlake who in his book "Hints on Household Taste" advocated a return to simple functional furniture.
