History

This quilt, the "Pineapples" pattern was made about 1904 by Mrs. Thomas Baxter, of Burlington, Ontario. Mrs. Baxter was Amanda Kaiting, born in Trafalgar, Ontario, February 27, 1823. Died Chestnut Villa, Burlington, Ontario, March 30, 1906. She was a daughter of John Kaiting and Elizabeth Biggar, pioneer settlers in Halton County who were married in 1806. Mrs. Baxter was donor's great-great aunt, and mother of Miss Ellen Baxter, owner of gown (58.75); also mother of Bella Baxter who owned doll (Bella).
