History

On note attached to carpet at time of donation: "This carpet was woven by Mrs. Matthew Prendergast and her two daughters at Strangfield (Tilbury West) around the first of 1900. They raised sheep to secure wool used for carpet and is handwoven. They made enough for their parlour approximately 15 x 18 feet and also a bedroom. I was fortunate enough to secure this piece of carpet after many years of wear. This is called the 'Rainbow pattern'" - Mrs. Clifford Scratch
