Description

shako plate; Universal Infantry Pattern; four holes, one at each corner for attachment; crown atop; "GR" in centre encircled by "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE"; flags, rifle and horn ornamentation, crowned lion on bottom

History

the word "shako" comes from the Hungarian word for stiff military cap with a high crown and plume. This brass plate was worn on the front of the British Shako. Worn with "stovepipe shako", 1800-1812.
