Description

Rust-coloured leather box with metal closures; rectangular; inside cover has 2 slots; embossed crest on cover (see Marks).

History

Belonged to Eli E. Wright, who married Margaret Iler, daughter of John Coatesworth Iler. J.C. Iler was born in Colchester in 1828. His grandfather had come to Essex County in 1768 from Pennsylvania. J.C. Iler married Adaline Buchanan (also born in Essex County) in 1850. They had 3 children and 12 grandchildren. In 1883, he was made sherriff of the County of Essex. Donor's late husband Iler A. Irvine was a direct desendant and asked that these items be donated to the museum.
