Wide opening; tapers to narrow end; made in 2 pieces; fringe and bead work at opening, middle and ends; wool tassels along longitudinal seam; floral bead design

History

Gun bag is said to have been made by Locheaux, which is an aboriginal group that is part of the Sahtu Dene, located in the Northwest Territory Region. Aboriginal women worked with shell beads, porcupine quills and moose hair to decorate clothing and accessories. Following contact with Europeans, women soon incorporated glass trade beads with their intricate work. This art form continues today.
