Description

(.01) bookcase: walnut, glass, two hinged glass doors in wooden frame, rounded wooden molding between doors, two shelves, keyhole in one door, chamfered corners, mounting on doors, back made in three pieces; cut-out scrollwork in corners of door frame and muntin, molding at top and over doors
(.02) cornice: walnut; 4" high, 12.5" deep, 47" long; ogee shape; chamfered corners

History

Originally owned by C.W. Gauthier. This piece was stripped and re-varnished prior to its arrival at the museum. Interior surfaces of doors etc. have the tonality of black walnut while the exterior is closer to butternut. Possibly a bleaching out of natural colour occurred in the stripping process.
