Assumption [Huron] Mission House / Maison Mission de l'Assomption

Title (Fre)

Maison Mission de l'Assomption

Date

ca 1895

Description

An exterior rear view of the Assumption [Huron] Mission House, built for the Jesuits around 1785; this photo shows the building in use as a private residence, reduced in size with a renovated roof; notice the French Canadian heating system and chimney arrangement [two chimneys on each slope of the roof, each heating separate portion of the house]; the chimney on the right appears to be the original fieldstone chimneypiece; the construction of a new brick foundation adjacent to the Mission House is visible in the foreground; a pair of trousers hangs above the door of the house, drying in the sun.
