Black and white photograph of the non-commissioned officers of the 241st Highlanders (better known as the Scottish Borderers) recruiting in Windsor in November, 1916; there are four rows of men, most of whom are wearing kilts and Glengarry caps; there is a sidewalk in front of the men and a brick building behind them

History

Men from both Essex County and American men joined the regiment, drawn to the distinct Highland garb of the unit. Many of the volunteers for the 241st came from the ranks of the 21st Essex Fusiliers, known today as the Essex & Kent Scottish Regiment.
