Black and white photograph of the construction of the exit/entrance to the Michigan Central Railroad Tunnel; the tunnel is set down in a large trench; the exit and entrance tubes are partially visible amidst wooden planks and other building materials; there are two construction workers visible on the left side of the trench.

History

Construction began in 1906 and the tunnel under the Detroit River was opened in 1910. Butler Bros. Construction Company of New York City were contracted to complete the work.
