Description: Black and white photograph of section #4, Hull 34 of the Michigan Central Railroad Tunnel before it was placed beneath the Detroit River; the tunnel is on the right side of the photograph and the front section has been boarded over with wooden planks; in the centre of the photograph the metal hull is clearly visible; on the left side of the photo is a scaffolding with a ladder running from the ground to the top; there is a second ladder leaning up against the hull; building supplies are lying on the ground around the tunnel.
History: Construction began in 1906 and the tunnel under the Detroit River was opened in 1910. Butler Bros. Construction Co. of New York City were contracted to complete the work.
