Black and white photograph of the construction of the third section, Hull #34 of the Michigan Central Railroad tunnel in 1907; the main part of the photograph shows a very large metal structure with two tubes in the centre; in the foreground there are a number of men working on building the tunnel; there are also men standing beside the structure.

History

Construction began in 1906 and the railway tunnel under the Detroit River opened for service in 1910. Butler Bros. Construction Co. of New York City were contracted to complete the work.
