Black and white photograph of the barracks of the 99th Battalion (Essex County) showing the Men's quarters, kitchen, and dining room; there is one large building visible that seems to have three connected parts; to the left of the photograph is a wing jutting out toward the camera; it has two sets of double doors facing the camera and a small sign saying "No. 1" above a shuttered window in the centre; it has a peaked roof and has two chimneys; the back of this building is attached to a flat-topped two storey building running perpendicular to the first; there is one set of double doors and five windows (two beside the door and three above); the right side of this building is attached to a one storey building with a peaked roof and one chimney; in the foreground of the photograph is a short shed-like building; these buildings later became the Windsor Jockey Club and were located at the southeast corner of Ouellette and Tecumseh; the 99th Battalion (Essex Scottish) was one of many county-based units formed in 1915 and 1916.
