Description

19th century brass-wall bracket for mounted oil lamp from the Manitowoc Ferry; decorative pattern at base; holes located on base of bracket for mounting; circular holder for oil lamp; circular holder is decorated; size of ring can be tightened or loosened by turning handle.

History

According to donor, the lamp was obtained by the donor's grandfather, Harry L. Edmunds, who was employed as a cabin boy for the Grand Trunk RR working on the Manitowoc. When the Manitowoc was demolished, employees were given permission to take anything they liked from the ship. Mr. Edmunds obtained two brass wall lamps from the ship but later gave one to a fellow co-worker who was unable to get anything himself.
