History

There is debate as to who is the actual artist. People have attributed it to either Catherine Reynolds (1784 - 1864 ) or her sister Margaret (1765 - 1855). The Reynolds family is listed in the 1782 Detroit Census. Following Detroit being ceded to the Americans (1796), the Reynolds settled in Amherstburg. One of Catherine & Margaret's brothers, Robert Reynolds, was responsible for the construction of the historic house, Belle Vue.
