History

Donated through Cliff Graham of Harrow (donor's brother-in-law) since donor lived in Miami. Donor always remembers the dictionary in his family's bookcase. His father was Eugene J. Baby. They lived on Park Place, Windsor. Eugene died in 1933. The dictionary was given to Sharon McMahon of the faculty of nursing who brought dictionary to the museum. We believe the inscription JS Sinclair refers to John Sutherland Sinclair, who was serving in Canada with the Royal Artillery as early as 1797 and was here during the war of 1812. Sinclair was married in St. John's Church, Sandwich, in 1802. R.S. Woods, another inscription, was born in Sandwich and later became a Chatham lawyer.
